Hello! I'm Lesley Fightmaster (yes, that's my real last name - there was a grandma and grandpa Fightmaster!). I am certified and registered with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT500), and began teaching in 2006. I'm also a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Trainer and teach 300-hour modules for YogaWorks in Southern California. I taught regular classes at YogaWorks for 10 years.
Our YouTube videos and membership site (www.myyogapal.com) became very busy, and I had to stop teach regular yoga classes in studios.
We (my husband, Duke, and I) uploaded our first yoga video to YouTube in October of 2012. Duke had a YouTube “talk show” from 2007 to 2011, which is how he learned how to film, edit and upload. He’s a writer and comedian. In 2012, he had written a screenplay and purchased a video camera to film it. Duke asked if he could practice using his camera by filming a yoga video. After filming, we added a “voiceover,” uploaded it to YouTube and promptly forgot all about it. 😅
About 8 or 9 months later, we realized our video had a fair number of views so we added another one. It was also well received.
We decided to continue regularly in January of 2014 because we received wonderfully positive feedback. Our YouTube subscribers have grown to 595,000! They are incredibly wonderful people. ❤️
Many of our online yogis don’t have access to yoga studios where they live.
Some yogis are Mom’s or Dad's raising kids at home without access to child care.
We have also received many comments from students unable to afford to practice in a studio.
Some of our “Fightmaster Yogis” travel a lot for work (or did before Covid-19), and they weren’t able to find the time to practice in a studio.
Many beginner yogis are intimidated by the idea of going to a studio for the first time. Practicing at home first, gives them the courage they need to take that leap!
